Outreach Speaker

The Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling is soliciting a proposal from an individual contractor to give educational presentations to organizations in the greater Milwaukee community. This Outreach Speaker will be utilized on a periodic basis, and as their time allows and requests from the community are received.

A flat fee, covering speaking time as well as travel, will be paid per engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Outreach Speaker is responsible to speak in front of various groups of people about problem gambling to generate more awareness about the disorder, potential risks and resources available to help.
  • Provide own transportation to speaking engagements within a 100 mile radius of Milwaukee.
  • In collaboration with WCPG, develop presentations on compulsive gambling including high risk groups (youth, seniors) and general information on the disorder.
  • Communicate with WCPG Executive Director on a regular basis regarding assignments, expectations and all activities associated with role.
  • Provide own email and phone services needed to communicate with WCPG.
  • Periodically staff educational table at events or other WCPG activities in the Milwaukee area.
  • Learn about problem gambling, the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling and gaming industry; and commit to supporting the WCPG mission of remaining neutral on the issue of legalized gambling.
  • Professionally represent the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling including, without limitation, conducting self courteously and professionally and never arriving at any event under the influence of any alcohol or drug or gambling while representing the WCPG.
  • May be asked to speak to groups at any hour or any day of week.
  • Ensure no conflicts of interest exist.
  • Term: calendar year 2010

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School diploma.
  • Strong public speaker with the ability to hold the interest of audiences of any age.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and be punctual.
  • Ability to read and interpret information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Valid drivers license and auto insurance.
  • Ability to use computer, Microsoft products software, email and phone.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality.

Outreach speaker will be paid on a per occurrence rate which will be determined based on experience. Payment range is below.

    Single presentation $75 - $125
    Half-day (multiple presentations) $150 - $250
    Training rate $30 an hour (specific agreed upon hours spent with WCPG)

Persons interested in contracting with the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling to provide these services should submit a letter/proposal outlining their qualifications and expectations.
