This presentation will focus on the false promises and ideas disordered gamblers believe and the motivations they have to begin, continue, and relapse with gambling. Beginning with industry promises and continuing through the thoughts and beliefs individuals have around gambling and how those same beliefs can cause individuals seeking recovery to relapse and gamble again.

Course Objectives:

  1. Participants will begin to look into the minds of disordered gamblers and look at the changes on spirituality and values they may experience.
  2. Participants will begin to look at potential motivations for gambling and how those motivations many times remain valid in the gamblers mind throughout the rehabilitation process.
  3. Participants will get a glimpse into the gamblers past experiences that helped shape early motivations and spirituality and how these early experiences have morphed into the gambling mentality of the patient entering treatment.
  4. Participants will be given examples of how to identify faulty spiritual and motivational beliefs and begin to help the patient rehabilitate their beliefs and values.
